Blue-podded Peas

Aren’t they gorgeous?!

I’m very happy to report that blue-podded peas really do have blue pods.  Well, honestly, they’re more burgundy at this point, but color is really very objective I think.

In any case, and whatever their color, they’re doing wonderfully.  They are growing with such profusion and vigor that they couldn’t even hold on to their trellis anymore and collapsed under their own weight.  Jasper and I used some rope to harness them back up, and hopefully that will help hold them upright.  Because they’re only going to get heavier from here on out!

They are beautiful! I’m a novice when it comes to peas, but were the flowers a different color to produce a colored pod?

No worries! This is the first time I’ve ever grown these, so I’m also just finding this stuff out! The flowers ARE a different color – a pinkish purple. The flowers look almost exactly like sweet peas, but no nice smell I’m afraid 🙂
